Who’s Walking Who? The Gentle Leader Pet-Walking Collar: ALLIE’S PUPGEAR PICKS

Does your dog walk you? Try this incredible collar designed for the scent-sniffing puppy to the powerful-pulling Rottweiler.

I bought the Gentle leader when my Puggle was just 8 weeks old and having quite a bit of trouble taking walks or accompanying me on a jog. He pulled so hard that I found myself spending more time correcting him or trying not to step on him than actually exercising. I almost gave up on running with the little guy until I came across the Gentle Leader in a pet store. I couldn’t imagine leaving my pup indoors while I was enjoying the outside so I bought it. Believe it or not, Buddha and I were running exactly where I wanted to go that very day!

The Collar operates by slipping over your pup’s snout WITHOUT causing pressure on the jaw- allowing your dog to open and close his mouth as he pleases- so it’s NOT a muzzle. The unique design uses your pets own pulling motion to keep him right on track with your movement. I have to admit I was a little hesitant about the collar slipping over my little Puggles nose, but with the adjustable neck AND snout, Boo completely forgot about the collar as soon as we started jogging.

While it may take a little getting used to, the collar is effective almost immediately for most dogs. You can find the Gentle Leader along with a free instructional DVD, online or at most pet stores for a very affordable price.

So toss out those choke and pinch collars, this brilliant design is painless, safe and incredibly effective. No matter if you’re taking a leisurely stroll or a brisk jog, the Gentle Leader will allow you to set the pace!

Allie’s Rating:

4 Paws up!

One of the most visually interesting dogs we see today is the Chinese Crested. This member of the toy group comes in two varieties; ”The Hairless” and “Powderpuff”. Each of these types can be born in the same litter. The “Hairless” can have varying amounts of hair or fur. Most often, pronounced areas of longer hair will be present at the head, tail, and feet. These are known respectively as the “crest”, “plume”, and “socks”. The remaining areas can have little or no fur. Many colors including pinks, grays, blacks, blues and browns may be present on the skin.

This affectionate, energetic, and playful little dog makes an ideal pet for the apartment dweller. The Chinese Crested can weigh between five and twelve pounds and stand nine to thirteen inches at the shoulder. While sensitive to cold, their lack of hair makes them odor, tick, and flea free. Proper care and grooming must be taken with the longhaired or “Powderpuff” variety. The average life expectancy for this breed is ten to fourteen years.

Said to have originated in China around 1200, this breed has been enjoyed by many as a, lapdog, companion, and status symbol for hundreds of years. Proper socialization and training, as with any toy dog, make the Chinese Crested a wonderful pet and friend for adults and children alike.
